For the first time, the Antitrust Division stopped an airline merger, despite wailing from executives about industry woes. That's a historic win. It's also the end of the beginning for our movement.
Good news indeed. Now can someone initiate the breakup of other airline monopolies? Perhaps that is why I found a round trip price at KLM for way less than I usually pay, flying in off season from Germany to USA and back. Lufthansa is one to avoid. They were not on time one single time on both of our legs of both of our round trips, and they lost my daughter's luggage, and have not followed through on their customer obligations, trying to overcharge us on services that according to their website should be free. While grateful not to be flying in a Boeing Jet, will be researching which airlines have invested in Airbuses, and which in Boeings, until Boeing gets some regulation that cleans it up. That is many years down the road. Airbus better get more factories to take advantage of this lapse by Boeing. Looking forward to the development of low carbon flying, something my nephew is working on. Those of us with families on both sides of the ocean are going to be doing more than our share of carbon usage until this does happen.
I know he’s not the only one pulling the wagon, but Matt is one of the reasons we’re getting decisions like this and policies on stuff like overdraft fees and other crap.

With the Supreme Court possibly on the verge of ending federal regulation as we know it, the thorny problem of creating a stable combination of private ownership and public ownership / regulation in the air travel industry might get even thornier. It is a fascinating problem, though, and a critical one to get right. And that’s without factoring in public ownership of airports—there are so many moving parts to take into account. May we have the will and strength—to me it looks like a posting to the Augean Stables.
